A location in SmartThings allows you to group all of your smart devices, scenes and automations under a location name that can be linked to a geolocation. In this tutorial I'll show you step by step how to set up a location for SmartThings.
The images in this tutorial will have red rectangles to show you where you should click for each step.
Go to the app store that your phone uses and download the "SmartThings Connect" app.
If you don't have a Samsung account follow my tutorial on how to create one for SmartThings.
Open the SmartThings Connect app on your phone.
Tap on the icon that has three horizontal bars with an orange circle with the letter "N" on it.
Tap "Sign In".
Enter the email and password for your Samsung account and tap "Sign In".
Tap on the icon that looks like three dots stacked vertically.
Tap "Manage location".
Tap on the text field under "Location name" to change the name of this location.
Tap on "Geolocation" to set your real-world location.
If you have location disabled on your device you will see this popup asking you to turn on location, so tap "TURN ON".
After a few seconds your GPS location will be displayed on the screen. You can use your finger to move the blue icon on the map or you can click the target icon to place the marker at your current GPS location. After you have set your location tap "Done".
A popup message will tell you that your geolocation settings have been changed so tap on "CLOSE".
Tap on "Wallpaper".
Select the wallpaper you want for the background of your location and tap "Done". Everything will be saved and you can now exit the app.
