How to Add a Location to Samsung SmartThings Hub v3

A location in SmartThings allows you to group all of your smart devices, scenes and automations under a location name that can be linked to a geolocation. In this tutorial I'll show you step by step how to set up a location for SmartThings.

The images in this tutorial will have red rectangles to show you where you should click for each step.

  1. Google Play SmartThings Connect App Download Page

    Step 1: Download the SmartThings Connect App

    Go to the app store that your phone uses and download the "SmartThings Connect" app.

  2. Step 2: Create a Samsung Account

    If you don't have a Samsung account follow my tutorial on how to create one for SmartThings.

  3. SmartThings Connect App Logo

    Step 3: Open the SmartThings Connect App

    Open the SmartThings Connect app on your phone.

  4. SmartThings Connect Bar Icon Menu

    Step 4: Tap on the Bar Icon

    Tap on the icon that has three horizontal bars with an orange circle with the letter "N" on it.

  5. Step 5: Tap Sign In

    Tap "Sign In".

  6. Step 6: Sign in to Your Account

    Enter the email and password for your Samsung account and tap "Sign In".

  7. Step 7: Tap on the Icon With Three Dots Stacked Vertically

    Tap on the icon that looks like three dots stacked vertically.

  8. Step 8: Tap Manage Location

    Tap "Manage location".

  9. Step 9: Change the Name of Your Location

    Tap on the text field under "Location name" to change the name of this location.

  10. Step 10: Tap on Geolocation to Set a Location

    Tap on "Geolocation" to set your real-world location.

  11. Step 11: Turn On Location

    If you have location disabled on your device you will see this popup asking you to turn on location, so tap "TURN ON".

  12. Step 12: Set Your GPS Location

    After a few seconds your GPS location will be displayed on the screen. You can use your finger to move the blue icon on the map or you can click the target icon to place the marker at your current GPS location. After you have set your location tap "Done".

  13. Step 13: Close the Geolocation Popup Window

    A popup message will tell you that your geolocation settings have been changed so tap on "CLOSE".

  14. Step 14: Tap on Wallpaper

    Tap on "Wallpaper".

  15. Step 15: Choose Your Wallpaper and Tap Done

    Select the wallpaper you want for the background of your location and tap "Done". Everything will be saved and you can now exit the app.
